The historic Gateway Bridge is an iconic piece of infrastructure built in 1986 at a cost of $140 million to provide a much-needed city bypass and critical link between the Pacific Motorway to the south and the Bruce Highway to the north.
Boasting a 260 metre span and 64.5 metres above the Brisbane river below and balanced on a cantilever construction, the Gateway Bridge had the world’s longest concrete box girder span at the time and was heralded as a great engineering triumph.
Due to increasing traffic demands, a second Gateway Bridge is currently being built and will deliver an additional six lanes across the Brisbane River for cars including a dedicated pedestrian and cycle way for the first time ever.
When?
Throughout the year.
Where?
Brisbane River.
How much?
Tolls apply.
