The Old Windmill aka Tower Mill on Brisbane's Wickham Terrace was built by convicts in 1828 and is the city's oldest surviving building and landmark. Initially constructed to serve as a windmill, the building was later used as a convict-operated treadmill for grinding grain.
Its other uses over the years includes a signal station, fire brigade, radio and television research and as an observatory towards the end of the 19th century.
