St. Helena Island

St Helena Island is Queensland's first and most historic island and a beautiful National Park located just four kilometres from the Brisbane River.

For more than 60 years, the Island was home to the state's foremost maximum security prison for men which housed hundreds of society's outcasts in what is widely known as the "hell hole of the South Pacific." Today, only the ruins of this prison remains, along with the Island's rich history and colourful past.
